Client Profile: Senior Executive facing public backlash after controversial layoffs

Challenge

A senior executive scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a national conference shortly after announcing a controversial wave of layoffs was facing a polarizing public sentiment with confirmed media presence at and around the venue of the conference. Event registration was open, speaking schedules were public knowledge, and during our initial threat assessment, online commentary indicated a high probability of protest activity at minimum. 

These converging threat vectors created a perfect storm situation that meant we needed to fully reassess this client’s event security protocol. 

Actions Taken

• Conducted standard advance venue assessment and coordinated secure access areas with event leadership.
• Refined entry and exit protocols and implemented layered access management to ensure no unauthorized people were in our client’s presence.
• Structured movement pathways to avoid congestion and unnecessary exposure, mapped the entire convention center to ensure multiple potential route variations were possible as needed.
• Positioned protective personnel in low-visibility roles prepared for rapid intervention in addition to standard overt close protection personnel.

Outcome

The keynote proceeded without interruption. Media coverage within the venue focused exclusively on the messaging of the speech, and protesting individuals were kept out of line of sight of the client and out of the venue. The executive returned to their standard operations without experiencing any incidents.
